Georg Zundel Haus
Building Peace Education
In July 2002, the Foundation donated the use of new premises to the Institute for Peace Education Tübingen. To acknowledge this gift, the organisation named the property in honour of the Foundation’s founder, calling it the Georg Zundel Haus.
With spacious offices that bring its various projects together under the same roof, the Georg Zundel Haus also has a large meeting room, allowing the institute to host seminars, workshops, expert discussions, presentations and professional gatherings. The newly-renovated building contains their library and extensive media collection.
The Foundation has a long-term relationship to the Institute for Peace Education Tübingen, having made the first of many grants to the organisation in 1977. Five years later, the Foundation purchased the previous building that housed the organisation. On behalf of the Foundation, the institute administers the Hans Götzelmann Prize.
Set up in 2001, the prize is named after the Foundation’s first Chairperson of the Board of Trustees to commemorate the United Nation’s Decade for a Culture of Peace. Awarded every two years, the Hans Götzelmann Prize is for projects involving children and youth in activities that constructively deal with conflict. TopAward-winning Work
Established more than 30 years ago, the primary mission of the Institute for Peace Education Tübingen is to bring the problems of peace and conflict into the public eye in a variety of different ways. Their award-winning multimedia approach combines peace research with practical education projects designed to capture public attention and involvement.
Addressing a wide range of issues related to inter-personal, social and international conflict, the institute has produced over 100 publications— a variety of newsletters, articles, books and posters, developed more than 100,000 copies of educational CD-ROMs and made several films. Among many other projects, they host the Peace Counts School and the Peace Counts on Tour.
Reflecting the Foundation’s commitment to combining organisational strengths, Berghof Conflict Research and the Institute for Peace Education Tübingen have a partnership for institutional cooperation.
