World Economic Forum Invitation

Dr Klaus Schwab, founder and chairperson of the World Economic Forum, has invited the Director of Berghof Conflict Research, Dr Hans J. Giessmann, to become a member of the organisation’s Global Agenda Council Terrorism & Weapons of Mass Destruction. The network of Global Agenda Councils plays a significant role in shaping international affairs by monitoring crucial global issues and elaborating recommendations about how to effectively address them.

Advising on issues related to the challenges of terrorism and nuclear proliferation, Dr Giessmann joins a group of distinguished experts and policy makers from around the world. As he explains, “This is a valuable opportunity to share the knowledge and expertise developed by Berghof Conflict Research at the top-level of global politics.”

This prestigious appointment also demonstrates the increasing value of conflict transformation perspectives to global political and economic agendas. But as Dr Giessmann goes on to say, “This not only opens up important new audiences for our work. It also allows us to better understand why and how policy makers tackle relevant issues in different ways than we do. I look forward to participating in this mutually-beneficial process.”

Held in Davos, Switzerland, the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum has achieved global renown. Founded in 1971 and headquartered near Geneva, the World Economic Forum is an independent international organisation committed to improving the state of the world by engaging leaders in partnerships to shape global, regional and industry agendas. This mission is reflected in their motto, ‘entrepreneurship in the global public interest’.
