In coming months, our News column will include a Funder’s Response to ‘Peacebuilding at the Crossroads? Dilemmas and Paths for Another Generation’, Berghof Handbook Dialogue Series No 7.
The provocative letter ‘Just Wasting Our Time?’ provides the original inspiration for this edition of the Dialogue Series.
Written by Simon Fisher and Lada Zimina to the peacebuilding community at large, the authors address a range of critical issues, including some that are highly relevant for funders. Many respondents to the letter in the Dialogue Series also raise funding-related issues.
These beg a reply from a funder’s point of view. By offering our own response, we also hope to stimulate wider discussion among both private and public funders engaged in supporting this type of work.
Impetus for this collaboration between Berghof Conflict Research and the authors of ‘Just Wasting Our Time?’ initially grew out of a conversation between the Berghof Foundation for Conflict Studies and the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust (UK), which provided funding to the authors to write the letter.
