Grant Programmes

Solicited Grants Programme

Our intention is to pro-actively request proposals that complement the work being undertaken by our two flagship initiatives, Berghof Conflict Research and Berghof Peace Support. Our primary goal in soliciting proposals is to make the best use of our existing resources while simultaneously developing a broader, more coherent basis for our primary funding activities. We believe this approach will strengthen and give added value to our work over the long term.

All applicants for the Solicited Grants Programme must clearly specify the relevant Thematic Interest (for current list, see Thematic Interests under Funding Policy).

The Solicited Grants Programme operates as follows:

  • Submission of an Initial Letter of Inquiry, followed by a Full Application, if eligible. Please refer to the application guidelines under How to Apply.

Unsolicited Grants Programme

This programme is designed for projects that complement our Thematic Interests, but which can potentially lead the Foundation’s funding policy in new directions. We look favourably on applications oriented to the future agendas of conflict studies, especially those that address emergent themes and issues, are highly innovative and creative, and can build on our current Thematic Interests in experimental ways.

Applications for Unsolicited Grants must not necessarily correspond to the Foundation’s current Thematic Interests. The Foundation accepts requests for:

  • Practice-oriented research activities; i.e., action research or reflective practice
  • Academic research with practical relevance and clear applications in the field
  • Conferences, meetings and seminars on topics that are closely linked to Foundation interests
  • Material support; e.g., publications directly related to Foundation interests, dissemination costs for project findings and translation of relevant texts

The Unsolicited Grants Programme operates as follows:

  • Submission of an Initial Letter of Inquiry, followed by a Full Application, if eligible. Please refer to the application guidelines under How to Apply.
